What is Massage Therapy?
To practice Massage Therapy you need extensive specialized education. Registered Massage Therapists (R.M.T.'s) are trained in the assessment and diagnosis of soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment andprevention of injury, pain and physical disorders. It is widely understood that massage decreases stress and helps control pain. Perhaps less known is the effectiveness of this therapy in treating the deeper structures of the body such as ligaments, joints, fascia, organs and other soft tissue of the body. There are also many diverse physiological effects, which are primarily due to the therapist's hands moving over the body. The different movements can physically stretch muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia, encourage the circulation through the tissue, inhibit muscular spasm and be either sedating or stimulating to the nervous system.
